Oh boy political post. Here we go.

So over on Bluesky, I got into a heated argument with 5 or so people. To make a long story short, the argument started with me attacking a centrist for touting more both sidesism bullshit, saying that voting didn’t matter if both Harris and trump supported what was happening in Palestine. I told them, plain as day, that I would rather support Harris over Trump still, since one would commit genocide while destroying the constitution and the other would commit genocide while leaving the constitution intact.

In classic Internet fashion, I immediately got attacked for “supporting genocide,”despite the fact that I clearly don’t (something I stated multiple times to no success.) I had to clarify even that I do not at all WANT TO support Harris, and that I dislike the Democratic Party for not being at all what they promise. All this did was make me get attacked even more for thinking that “the only two choices were Harris or Trump.” All this did was just lead into a back and forth of me being accused of being a genocide loving freak while I explained, quite sternly admittedly, that I was not at all and hated placing my support on the Democratic Party. It lead nowhere though, and eventually everyone just blocked me once they realized I was not going to stop saying that I preferred, not even supported, PREFERRED, Harris over Trump, despite knowing that the genocide would have continued under her to.

Am I the asshole for sticking to my guns there? Like I said I hate the democratic candidate and what they think about Palestine, but I prefer them GREATLY over the Trump admin, where they would not only support the genocide but destroy the constitution while they are at it. I’m not even sure what the people arguing with me were aiming for, but I did keep getting accused of being “selfish” for preferring to support Harris over another option, despite me knowing that another option, or not voting in general, would have been a worse option than Harris, even if she is not great.

Was I in the right? Was I ok to say that I would rather Harris over Trump despite knowing she would be genocidal too? Should I have caved to the centrists and apologized for saying something stupid? I can tell you for one thing I wish I never got into this stupid argument, but can’t fix the past ig. Just want to know if I was doing the right thing by staying put or if I was out of my depth.
