I’ve never posted here before but I had an unexpected altercation with someone and I just would like to know if I was the AH or if she was just being entitled.
This happened at the gym during peak busy hours when usually a lot of people are looking for parking as there’s more members than spots available. I had just arrived to gym and was looking for parking so I turned into the parking lane all the way to the right and there were two cars stopped. At first I assumed the car in front was waiting for a car to pull out so that she could take the spot, but after a while neither cars moved or put any indication that they were efe intending on parking, so I drove around them to continue looking elsewhere. As I got to the end of the lane and was about to turn left to try the next lane over, I saw a woman walking to her car to leave which happened to be the very first car all the way to the end of the lane I was in. I stopped and waited for her to pull out and when I turned on my blinker to indicate that I’d be turning into the spot, the car I mentioned earlier that was stalled towards the back of the lane suddenly drove up and started honking and flashing at me. She got out of her car and immediately started calling me rude and was insisting that she should get that spot because she had been waiting.
Honestly maybe if she had just asked nicely rather than immediately insulting me I might’ve just moved on and let her take the spot, but personally I don’t see why she should be entitled to the entire line…I don’t even think she realized someone was pulling out until I put my blinker on.
I’ve dealt with packed parking here many many times before and usually the etiquette (from my experience at least) is whichever car that’s the closest and claims it first gets the spot and usually there’s no issues. As I said earlier she was towards the back stalled (blocking traffic through the parking lot mind you) and the spot I ended up grabbing was the very first spot all the way to the front.
Was I in the wrong? Should I have just let her have the spot? I just want to avoid this happening in the future
