Me (48M) and my wife (50F) and a daughter (14F)
The kid came home yesterday and told me a boy in her band class had given her $40 to buy the paid version of Minecraft.
This morning the kid reminded me so she could buy it. I decided it was something I should bring up and told the kid, "If a boy is giving you $40, he's into you". I was going to try and lead this into a conversation about being respectful and conscientious about leading boys on, as well as accepting gifts (If he's giving you money to play a game, he's probably hoping to play that game online with you).
The kid didn't believe me that the boy is into her. Says that there's no way he's into her and that they're just friendly with each other (not friends, just friendly and get along).
I asked the wife for some backup, and she says it doesn't mean anything. She said she and her bestie use to give each other gifts all the time. She also said that the boy might not even realize he's into her. We never made it to a good conversation with the kid about how to handle the situation as I was constantly interrupted to tell me how wrong I was about this boy.
So the question is, AITAH? Is the boy into her? Am I wrong to bring it up?
