My MIL is a sweet but oblivious conservative woman. She was raised very religious and conservative, and has relaxed significantly, but sometimes the "boomer" views just kinda pour out without any thought.

Today she was spending some time with us and she asked my stepson (her grandson) how long he was gonna let his hair grow and when he was going to cut it (its cute and shaggy right now). He said "never" and giggled (he's 10). She immediately shot back "well if you never cut it you'll look like a sissy girl!". I was sitting right there and immediately cute her off and said "No MIL, it absolutely won't and we know tons of boys with long hair" and then we all (MIL included) chatted about diff boys we knew with long hair and no one seemed bothered.

I don't think she's mad, but I could see her look a bit annoyed at first. Maybe I should have just left it alone, but it pisses me off when people say stuff like that, especially around kids, they get to make their own opinion on what they like.

I will continue to correct her if she does stuff like this, but just curious if it sounds like AITA, and if theres a nicer way to tell her to shut up 😂
