I (17F) live with my father (35M), Stepmom (33F), and a dog, Kona. My father and step mother have recently revealed to me that they are expecting. At first I’m not gonna lie I was a little against it being that my father hadn’t lived with me in my childhood and I enjoy being an only child. (I’m only an only child on my father’s side, well not anymore lol). Babies aren’t anything new to me I basically helped raise my youngest sibling so I was happy for them. Usually the schedule we have a for taking the dog out is, my stepmom does mornings, I do afternoons, and my father does nights. Sometimes my stepmom would not be up to it(before she was pregnant) and my father or I would do it but we’d switch shifts. Like if I did the morning she would do afternoons. Lately she’s just been up and leaving for work without taking the dog out, my dad would sometimes do it but he would often ask me, unprompted, to take the dog out like 3 min. before we need to leave resulting in us being late. I will admit it got a bit annoying. Now my father has told me to take two shifts with the excuse “everyone’s gonna have a heavier load.” But what I don’t understand is why my stepmom cant just take the dog. Granted we do live in an apartment and there are stairs, but it’s one flight. I understand she’s pregnant but that doesn’t stop her from being able to literally walk the dog she just HAD to have. Yes I know it’s just taking the dog out and I should just do it, but I also have work and school now I have to wake up earlier to make time to take the dog out. And this isn’t the first time I’ve had to make up for her shortcomings when it comes to house work/chores even before she was pregnant. For example, when we deep clean the house it’s only me and my father doing the cleaning while she just sits there, or we’ll do it while she’s at work. So I told them, I understand that this being her first pregnancy may be a lot but I’ve known a couple of pregnant women in my time and they can walk up some stairs and take their own dog for a walk. Idk maybe I’m just being selfish but I really need to know. AITAH?
