My sister dropped off my nephew with me when he was three and basically never came back for more than a few days at a time. She’d say she’s getting her life together or needed a break, and it just became normal that he lived with me. She didn’t really provide anything, not food, clothes, school stuff, nothing. I stepped in like any decent person would. I got him enrolled in school, made sure he had shoes that fit, and yeah, I fed him. A lot. He’s a growing kid and he eats. I didn’t think twice about it.
Now suddenly she’s reappeared, wants him back full time, and is mad because she says I’ve been “overfeeding” him and “ruined his eating habits.” She says he’s too used to “luxury food” like actual cooked meals and snacks and stuff she “can’t afford.” He’s not even overweight or anything. She literally said I was an ahole for “spoiling” him with food because now he’s picky and complains about not having enough at her place. I told her I’m not gonna apologize for feeding a child properly. She said I’m undermining her and trying to make her look bad. Am I the ahole for just making sure the kid ate like a normal human?
