okay, background. so I (16 F) am really into and really good at music. I have multiple state awards (anyone who knows performing arts culture knows how competitive it is in Texas) and I've even been invited to perform at state colleges for music festivals.

in highschool marching bands, there's something called a drum major. these are like the big leaders, the conductors. this has been my dream. drum majors are usually taken pretty seriously by music colleges, which is something i want to pursue.

my friend, P (17 F), also wants to be drum major. She was a fill-in last season since her knee was broken, but she hasn't changed much since then and she was really mean to the senior drum major that year. She's also been really rude and intimidated every other kid trying out until it's just her and I. I dont want to back down.

i asked mutual friends and some say i shouldn't be allowed to since im new to the school (transfered from a school mid freshman year. i'll be a junior next year so i've more than done my time). another said no one will ever take me seriously enough. im torn.
