So i currently rent a room in a large home from A. My friend B was interested in renting one of the available rooms. I asked A and he said $900 to $1k depending on the room.
Unfortunately B's budget is $800.
I told A this and he says if she agrees to clean the house once a month he can reduce the rent to $800. He's currently paying a cleaner $100 a month and they usually spend 3 hours average to do basic cleaning of the common areas. This includes sweeping, mopping, counter tops, and 3 bathrooms. There's also a staircase.
Well.... I thought it was a good compromise.
But when I told B, she got highly upset and offended, declaring she wasn't anyone's maid. For context, she's black. The rest of us are not.
I understand why she would feel this way. But I don't feel the same way. Surely it's a little degrading at worst. But $100 discount for 3 hours? In your own dwelling none the less.
So she got upset with me for even suggesting or going along with it.
Actually I am going to now ask A to offer me the same discount. The house is not messy at all and it would not be anything I already don't do
