I (33 F) was recently away with a group of people I didn't know that well. We all have a few mutual friends, and one mutual "frenemy"

I had heard some crazy rumors that came from aforementioned "frenemy" and just wanted to let everyone know the situation with this person.

This is the type of person to come to you and accuse your husband of cheating on you, with no evidence, type of bullshit.

I'll admit that I probably could have done this without disclosing previous rumors, but my goal was just to ensure that they know not to trust this woman. And to provide them with clearly FAKE rumors that she's shared, as examples.

That backfired, and I ended up really hurting a few people in the process. The goal was to let everyone know what the woman is capable of, and not to trust her at her word... however, reiterating some previously spewed rumors really upset people.

I know I'm in the wrong, but also, feel like hearing those same rumors out of context, could cause a lot more harm. Thoughts?
