📝 AITAH for walking out of a family dinner because I didn’t want Italian food (again)?

Yesterday, my mom, my sister, my brother-in-law, my fiancé, and I were planning on going out for dinner together. I suggested a few places we could go, but they were all declined. Eventually, my mom, sister, and BIL decided on an Italian restaurant.

Here’s the thing — I’ve been eating a lot of Italian food recently and I’m kind of over it. I voiced several times that I really didn’t want to go there, and my fiancé agreed. He didn’t want Italian either. Despite that, they ignored our preferences and we ended up going to the Italian place anyway.

When we got there, my fiancé suggested I at least look at the menu to see if there was anything I might like. I did, but honestly, it was just pasta and pizza, and nothing appealed to me. So I told everyone I was going to leave and grab something quick at a nearby sushi place and then come back afterward.

They were not happy. They thought it was incredibly rude of me to leave, and my fiancé chose to stay with them even though he didn’t want Italian either. He later told me he didn’t want to be rude by walking away from a family plan.

From my perspective, I didn’t want to pay good money for a meal I didn’t want. I also think the better solution would’ve been to come up with a place we all wanted to eat at, not just go with what the majority wanted while ignoring others.

So… AITA for leaving to get food I actually wanted?
