📝 AITAH for wanting a proper apology

Was having dinner with my boyfriends parents. My bf dad had slipped out “ur fat” during dinner. It got all super awkward and quiet, I had pretended to go wash my hands so I wouldn’t cry. The dad had yelled out I’m sorry while I was in another room.

I’m alittle upset that I wasn’t apologized directly. He could of pulled me aside and apologized for the rude comment or called me later. I don’t think yelling I’m sorry, while I’m not even in the same room counts as genuine? If he had the guts to make a rude comment to my face, shouldn’t he apologize to my face?

Context: We are prepping dinner, cutting off the fatty part of meat. My bf dad was cutting, I was watching. Conversation among the table that it’s good to cut off the fatty parts, my bf dad had said “it’s ok ur already fat” towards me.

Boyfriend did clock it, saying he couldn’t say that. Which resulted his father yelling I’m sorry while I’m in another room.
