I (m19) and my gf (f19) have been together for 1 and a half years recently I went to her home and happened to leave some of my clothes and a pair of my shoes there which my girlfriend put in a bag for me to take next time I came. Her mum found this bag and took out my £100 pair of Nike trainers and threw them in the bin, assuming they were my girlfriend’s old shoes. These being my favourite trainers meant this situation somewhat upset me. However when it came to it my girlfriend told me her mum had said she will buy me a new pair of trainers. At this point I said to my girlfriend is it okay if I pick the trainers I get because I don’t want her to go and just buy any pair of trainers. My girlfriend asked me what I meant by this to which I said I don’t rly want her to go out and buy off brand ones or £30 Nike ones that I wouldn’t wear or really like very much. I then added at the end of this statement that, that isn’t something I think her mum would do I just want to take precautions to make sure I get a pair I like again. This has then caused my girlfriend to accuse me of disrespecting her, her family and calling her mum cheap of which I have tried to assure her that was never my intention however she is still insisting what I said was disrespectful. AITAH?
