My step daughter is almost 20years old and doesn’t clean up after herself unless she’s told. She only comes over on weekends and this has always been an issue with my husband and I. I want her to contribute to the house not as punishment but to teach her basic life skills. My husband says she isn’t here during the week so she shouldn’t be picking up after us. Since she was a kid we only would get her on the weekends so my husband thinks she can just kick back when she’s with us (her mom is a B word.) it’s as if he sees it as a punishment, but why am I finding myself picking up after a 19year old? I am the one who keeps my house clean during the week so on weekends I can relax, dishwasher is usually empty and dishes accumulate in her room. On Sunday before she leaves, she will bring all of her dishes out and leave them on the counter. Last weekend, she dog sat with us with her boyfriend. We left out of town and I made sure the kitchen was clean, I got back and she left all of her dishes in my sink. I am so fed up, I made her wash them when she came home to collect some clothes (she was staying at her grandmas house.) I’m so upset that my husband doesn’t have my back so I look like the evil step mom. Am I being immature?? I give my husband the same energy if he leaves his dishes around after I’ve cleaned. I work a full time job as well.
