My partner (M) and I (F) have been together for 4 years and common law married for a little over 2. He is an amazing partner and I genuinely couldn’t see myself with anyone else. We have been planning on doing a real ceremony later after getting common law married. This week was my birthday and my partner took me out to hot springs and dinner. I pretty much knew he was going to propose so put in as much effort as I could into looking nice for dinner after soaking in a hot spring. When we went to dinner we got sat in high tops close to the front door and the service was a bit rushed. By the time we left the restaurant he still hadn’t proposed, I figured he decided to wait until our anniversary next month. We drove the hour home and when we got there our roommate was home. My partner started talking with him so I got changed into something pajamas. When I came back down and he was done talking he looked at me and pulled out the ring box from the backpack he packed for the hot springs. He told me he had been thinking and thought it was best to do it in our home. He opened the ring box (the ring was perfect I must say) and I put the ring on myself. He didn’t get on one knee, didn’t decorate the house at all, the house wasn’t even clean, didn’t see if our roommate would take pictures. Later he apologized for it not being a fancy proposal I said it was fine and I asked him if the restaurant being too busy by the front door made him hesitate and he said no. The more I think about it the more it bothers me. I don’t know if i should bring it back up or leave it alone. It wouldn’t change anything since we are already married and I still want to be.
