My fiancée and I have been together for five years. When we met, she already had a few tattoos—some she really loved, and a few she wasn’t too fond of. I’ve never been anti-tattoo myself, but I’m also not a huge fan.
One of the tattoos she disliked (and honestly, I wasn’t crazy about either) was something she’d been wanting to cover for a while. So she booked an appointment and finally went in to take care of it.
But when she came back, she was in tears. She said she felt like she made a mistake. Turns out, she didn’t even cover the tattoo she originally went in for. Instead, the conversation at the shop spiraled into her reflecting on all of her tattoos, and she ended up getting a large new piece on her side and thigh to cover something else entirely.
Now she has this big new tattoo I really don’t care for, and I can’t lie—it stings a bit. We had talked about everything beforehand, and it felt like we were aligned. But then it all flipped once she got there. It’s not just about the tattoo itself—it’s that I’m left feeling a little blindsided, and honestly, like I can’t fully trust her judgment or our communication right now.
