I’m 23, and I live in a house that technically belongs to my mom, but I’m the one who pays for everything — bills, groceries, taxes, you name it. She lives with me, and while she doesn’t work outside the house, she cooks and cleans sometimes (emphasis on sometimes).

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved animals and always dreamed of having a bunch of pets. A few years ago, I adopted my first cat. Then came the second. Then the third. They’re all neutered, vaccinated, and the house is clean. I take full responsibility for them.

The issue is that I recently rescued a kitten from the street — it was freezing, and I couldn’t just leave it there. I brought it home, and my mom flipped. She said “this is too much,” and that the house is “starting to look like a shelter” (???). She even threatened to move out if I brought home one more cat.

I honestly feel like she’s just being dramatic. She doesn’t feed them, doesn’t clean after them, and they don’t bother her at all. But she acts like I’m committing some crime every time a new cat shows up. The irony? She loves taking selfies with them and posting them like they’re her pets.

I feel like as long as I’m taking care of them and the cats are healthy and happy, it shouldn’t be a big deal. AITAH for wanting to keep adopting?
