Keeping this one as anon as possible, so details will be scarce.
I have an acquaintance who has some health issues which I am very sympathetic of. About 2 months ago they reached out and asked for monetary help. I agreed as it was no trouble for me. They settled things with me a week later and I thought that would be it.
Since then, the requests for more help have been non stop. I'm usually pretty good about saying no, but once those flood gates were open it has been a torrent and I haven't been able to refuse which is all on me. Thankfully the requests for help have stopped, but now the excuses about why that can't settle up are continuing. The promises are there, but there always seems to be something that's come up.
I've decided to step back from engaging until things change. They love to talk and these requests for help and excuses for why they can't pay me back always include a very long preamble about what's been happening in their life. I found that all very tiring but it's why feel like the AH for not wanting to chat.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
