So I (19F) got invited to this river day by a girl from my college. It was supposed to be a fun summer thing - people swimming, music, food, just a chill day. I didn’t know most of the people there, maybe 20 or so came, mostly in their 20s.

I wore a beige bikini set I really liked. I’ve worn it before, it’s nothing super revealing. Everyone else was in swimsuits too, so I figured it was fine.

But pretty quickly I noticed a weird vibe. A couple girls kept looking at me and whispering, and one guy said “well she’s not exactly shy” loud enough for everyone to hear. I laughed it off, but I felt awkward. I wasn’t acting flirty or anything - I was literally just sitting by the water drinking and talking to people.

Later, one of the girls came over and said, “Hey, some of the guys have girlfriends, maybe tone it down a bit?” I was like… huh? I didn’t even know what to say. I honestly just felt embarrassed.

I ended up leaving early because the vibe got so weird. The girl who invited me hasn’t said anything since, and now I’m wondering if I actually did something wrong.

I wasn’t trying to get attention. I just wore something I felt confident in. I mean, I really don’t think I looked that out of place… you can kinda see what I mean.
