📝 AITAH for wishing that extreme Leftist Activists would stop trying to change games to fit the socially-correct mold?

Let me preface this by saying that I am very left wing. That being said, I honestly despise some of the actions being taken by progressive groups when it comes to video games.

I understand what they're trying to do; video games have been misrepresentative of different races, cultures, genders and sexualities for years. Video games are usually aimed at younger audiences, lets say 10-18 for reference. Now, this is a very impressionable time for people, so having them absorb this misrepresentation is obviously a bad thing. So, in an effort to change that, they've begun asking for more from game developers in regards to representing these communities the correct way and making noise (not derogatory) about some aspects of games that aren't politically correct. And I love that as a goal! That's a fine goal to have!

Trouble is, they're making demands to corporations while not educating the consumer. From a kid's perspective, they're just demanding a change that a child wouldn't understand the justification behind. Now, for teenagers, they might understand what exactly the change means, but a large percentage of the gaming community, as has been brought to light under recent gaming discourse, is very against these changes from the start. Not only that, but there are so many Right Wing gaming commentators that are taking these actions, which they present as brash and aggressive in most cases, and creating this echo chamber where it's the same things and the same phrases getting thrown around.

Now, I don't want to go into too much detail, but given the state of social media and the fact that we love being shown rage bait mixed in with things we agree with, these impressionable people only see what the action was (usually presented in a negative light) and the response from a creator who agrees with their views, thereby cementing said views. This is the echo chamber I mentioned.

I just don't think we should be trying to change video games. It's not worth the effort at this point when the majority of the gaming sphere have already been instilled with the idea that we are monsters. What we could do instead is SUPPORT SMALL GAME DEVELOPERS WHO NEED THE MONEY TO CONTINUE MAKING THEIR GAMES! The big guys will always stick to what makes the arrow on their chart go up, but smaller creators just want to make games, usually because the games that are out there already aren't what they want in the world! BUY INDIE GAMES! EVEN IF YOU DON'T PLAY THEM, SUPPORT THE CREATOR! THAT'S HOW WE CHANGE GAMING!

Although I am passionate about this, please tell me if I'm being a d**k
