AITAO for not letting my brother drive my motorcycle after he crashed my first one, even though the whole family’s taking his side?
I (23M) bought my first motorcycle when I was 20. It was a used Yamaha R3, nothing fancy, but I saved for months working two jobs to get it. I loved that bike.
One day, my older brother (27M) begged me to let him take it for a quick ride. He had his license, but he was always kind of reckless—he’s the type who thinks he’s invincible, you know? Against my better judgment, I said yes.
He laid it down within 30 minutes. Took a corner way too fast, totaled the bike, and walked away with a scraped knee and zero guilt. I didn’t even get an apology—just a “you’ve gotta expect these things when you ride.”
Fast forward to last month: after saving up again for over a year, I finally bought a new bike—a 2022 Triumph Trident. It’s my pride and joy. First thing my brother says when he sees it? “Let me take her for a spin.”
I laughed and said, “Absolutely not.” He thought I was joking. When I told him I was dead serious, he got mad. Like, actually offended. Said I was “holding a grudge” and “acting like I’m better than him.”
Now the whole family is on his side. My mom said, “He made one mistake, you need to let it go,” and my dad told me I was being selfish and “dividing the family over a bike.” My brother is still sulking like a 10-year-old and won’t talk to me unless I “make it right.”
I feel like I’m living in crazy town. He literally wrecked the first one. Am I really supposed to risk the second just to prove I’m not bitter?
AITAO?
