Hi, I am 19, female cm. I am white/nativeAmerican and very pale yet I have box braids. My hair was done by my Aunt who is 42 and black. Married to my uncle on my dad's side. Me and my aunt are very close. Babysitted me every time my mom wanted to go out and every time I'd come back she would do cornrows and braids in my hair she never had a daughter or had yet the ability to have one of her own. She still tries to have kids to this day. So I knew I was a good outlet for her. My mom said that they were so easy to maintain as me being a wild kid. I had no idea what cultural appropriation was. Until recently. I just thought anyone could have box braids. Until I was stopped a woman and her mid-thirties. At a coffee shop telling me that I should not have that "haircut" I explained that my aunt did it but she called me racist and ableist (I also had a autism meme shirt) I am autistic. This woman was white. But is she right? Am I the asshole?
