I've been with my boyfriend for about 2 months, we talk on the phone every day and we often text each other, but since I'm taking my exams soon I have a pretty tight schedule so we meet up about once a week. About a week ago 2/3 hours before we were supposed to meet him (he was supposed to spend the night at my place) my long-time friend's brother wrote to me, asking if I could go out with her because she broke up with her boyfriend that day (they were together for over 2 years) and he wanted her to go out hoping it would make her feel better, when I heard that I immediately canceled the meeting with my boyfriend. I've known my friend for 11 years, she's like a sister to me and I know I can always count on her, that's why I want to be there for her in difficult times just like she's always been there for me. The problem is that since that evening my boyfriend doesn't want to talk to me, he used to text me a dozen or so times a day and now he doesn't text me at all, and when I try to start a conversation he replies briefly and reluctantly. So am I an asshole for canceling a date with my boyfriend in favor of my friend?
