I’ve had this friend since I was 10 years old, and I considered him one of my best friends—at least until last year when I was 17 and decided to cut him off.
The decline of our friendship began after I broke up with my girlfriend, whom I had dated for a year. At the time, I thought she ended our relationship to focus on getting into college to become a doctor. But three weeks later, another good friend told me that my ex and this friend were going on dates together. I was furious, but I eventually accepted that it wasn’t my business anymore.
Months passed, and it was my friend’s birthday. He decided to throw a pool party—and he was still dating my ex. I was still mad with him. Things were fine until all my friends decided to prank me by throwing me into the pool. I hadn’t brought swimwear because I was sick, so this friend offered me one of his old swimsuits. But it was so short on me that it looked like I was in underwear, so I refused to jump in willingly.
They forced me anyway—they took my phone and threatened to throw it in the pool. Eventually, they pushed me into the water. Everyone laughed at me, and no one handed me a towel until my ex took pity and lent me hers. I was so humiliated that I blocked all of them on social media. But since my school was small, I couldn’t avoid them forever, so I eventually forgave everyone—except him.
Now, my other friends say I’m being unfair since I forgave them but not him. Next week, I’m throwing a party and inviting all of them—even my ex—but not him.
