So basically, I (27f) and my best friend (32f) rented a storage unit together about 8 months ago. It’s $250 a month. I’ve been saying for a couple months now that I want to cancel the unit. Last month about half way through the month I told her I was 100% cancelling it this month, I can’t afford it anymore and I have no use for it either. I’m literally just throwing money away every month. I told her AGAIN at the beginning of the month when we paid the bill that I was cancelling it and that it would be no later than two weeks into the month as that’s the cutoff. She was warned multiple times. So anyway, I canceled the unit like I said I would and let her know. She kind of freaked out, like didn’t yell or anything but was not happy. Saying she didn’t know I was cancelling this month and that she assumed we would just be keeping it for another month. She says she’s completely unprepared, it’s “so last minute” and that she can’t afford it, even though we have till the end of the month (a day before the rent is due) and the movers are only $50 more that the monthly rent. And again, I told her MULTIPLE times it was getting cancelled this month. She’s known about this for weeks, and instead of preparing she left it to the last second. If she needed more time, she should have communicated that, right? My rational brain is telling me I’m not the asshole, but the people pleaser in me feels guilty. I even offered to cover the movers for now and help her clear out the basement of where she lives. So, yall. Aitah?
