TLDR: fight over racism destroyed relationship with brother and SIL.

I took a trip to Italy with my brother and SIL a few weeks ago. During our trip I paid for our housing for 2 weeks, paid all of my brother’s expenses on the trip and treated the three of us to a day trip to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast. At the time, I had just lost my job but since I had already paid for stuff, and since the trip had been planned for months, I decided we would still go on the trip.

During a day trip to Sorrento, on a bus with 50 people, I asked my brother if he was interested in coming to some games for a new WNBA team since I had gotten season tickets. He said naw, the only reason people are really even watching is because of Caitlin Clark. I said no, that’s not true. That the league had 1) been built on the talent of Black women and 2) Angel Reese was also responsible for the surge in interest. My brother was very dismissive and that led to a conversation about race. His girlfriend yells out that I was being racist. Everyone on the bus heard and I told her to lower her voice and she said she absolutely would not. Then the folks sitting in front of me tell me start agreeing with my SIL, and demand to be moved away from me. My SIL is yelling to get me away from them, too. I move and look at my brother and am waiting for him to intervene and make my SIL chill out. Well, he does nothing, she starts crying her tears and then my brother says I am making her cry. I was so pissed, I told him she was being a Karen and then she flipped me off and said F you to me. My brother said nothing. He was only worried about her.

So I told them they could find another place to stay that night. As soon as we got back, I left and went to get dinner and cool off.
