My step-son is a good kid. 16, good grades in school, respectful and caring to his half-sisters. Really good around his cousins (he is the oldest). For the most part an amazing kid.... I love him, and just for back story we lost his 15 yr old sister not long ago to a year long battle with cancer. He literally does nothing "wrong" that any parent would be worried aboout. But he plays video games and 91% of interactions with his friends are online, in video games.... late at night. Like 10, 11pm. 12, 1, 2am. On his headset, microphone, yelling and being in his room. His room is next to his 12 yr old half sister and my 3 yr old daughter (also his half sister) They go to bed, not easily, at 8:15 and 9:30 give or take. I game too, I understand, but I have respect and I do not play or activate my mic after my 3 yr old goes to bed. He literally yells into his headset at midnight. My wife... well if I mention it or say anything to him, she gets all upset with me. I get it, she had a rough divorce and lost the kids for a while, but that was 13 years ago. He is 16 now, driving, a dang adult pretty much. She will not do anything to correct his disrepectful behavior I guess because she is afraid of him not come over every other weekend? I am so over if, and so upset that it affects the younger childrens sleep, I just dont know what to do. Ive talked to him, Ive talked to my wife. Im considering just changing the wifi password until he can learn to control himself but things are already not great with my wife and that might push it over the edge. Would I be totally wrong to just go stay at a cheap hotel the nights he is here? I hate that thought because I work nights and already miss putting my little girl to bed those work nights, but I am going to lose my cool hearing him yell and wake his sisters up. For context by the way, my wife will go to bed and somehow ignore him yelling into his damn headphones, but if I put on the tv or something on volume 4 she comes out and yells at me. I work nights, so my nights off I have to stay awake and I have to tip toe around like a damn mouse and make no noise, but a screaming kid at 1am about some video game she can ignore. Im really thinking a hotel 2-4 nights a month is worth it, AITAH?
