📝 Feeding another human being

AMITA…Shortly ago, I handed some leftover food to an unhoused person on my block as he was leaving from a shady area on the sidewalk. I’ve seen him around before and I always feel so horrible and guilty. So, now I try to help him with food or water if our paths cross.

Anyway, immediately after I handed him the food some guy comes out of his complex and says to me with an abrupt and annoyed tone, “Can you not feed him?”

I responded firmly, “No.” and “Please don’t tell me what to do.”

His retort was to tell me he wasn’t telling me what to do. I then told him to “Fuck off and leave me alone”—which I admit was a little harsh. I was just so repulsed by another human being trying to DENY another human being food! This unhoused guy has it bad enough wandering the streets with no shelter, little to no food, no family or any support. It absolutely devastates me. I understand that most people have. A strong dislike and judgmental sentiment towards this community—I get it, it makes people uncomfortable and some people see them as a nuisance but I feel like we’ve lost our humanity and I’m pissed that someone would try to control someone from helping a person who obviously isn’t in much in a position to help themselves.

If anyone’s curious, the guys response to me after I told him to fuck off was “go fuck yourself” to which I responded “Ok, I’ll do that.”

TLDR; AITA for telling a guy to fuck off after he tried to tell me not to feed a person in need?
