So I’m working in my shop yesterday, making some cabinets for either side of the fireplace, keep in mind that this was not for a client , when a neighbour from across the street comes over . We’ve been in this house since Jan 2024 , I got my business lic from the local licensing office even before we took possession.
He’s been over before , nice , loved finding out what I was doing , thought is was cool , he’s a coder for Amazon and loved seeing it . Yesterday was different… I was ripping some MDF , had the small vac going , so when I saw him coming up the drive , I finished my cut , turned everything off and said “ hey , how are you ? “ He launched into how it was Saturday and I can’t be working on the weekends, it’s his time of rest … I was quite taken aback as this wasn’t like he was prior , I said no , these are for myself and I have a business licence for this shop , and I’m just as allowed to work on my house on weekends and evenings as long as it’s within the hours permitted. He said really ?? You have a license for all this ??!? I assured him I did and asked what can I do to help the situation ?

His response was to move the shop somewhere else

I said I can’t do that , but I’ll close the door when I can to keep the noise down and make sure I don’t work past the hrs allowed .

He said so you aren’t going to be a good neighbour !?! I said I’m trying , but there’s not much else I can offer

He then says “ so I’m going to sue you and shut you down “

Stunned , I said you are free to contact the city and find out more info ,and with that info , you are also free to do what you wish .

He then went to the street and took pictures of me in my shop …

We are planning to strip off the stucco and brick this summer off the front of the house and replace with shakes , new windows , trim etc … had to warn my wife that he’s going to loose his shit with nail guns going till 8 every night , so be prepared…

Sigh
