When we were just starting seeing each other, we went to a kind of renaissance fair and he bought me a ring that they were selling in one of the stands. It was a pink ring with cat ears and a pink cat eye in the middle, it was cute. The thing is that one time I went out to a storage room I was renting, when I washed my hands at the restroom of the facility, I stupidly took out my rings, including the one he gave me. I ended up forgetting that they were there and remembered when it was too late.
I told him about it, except that I was too embarrassed by how it happened and what he would think of me, so I told him that I guessed it fell off and I didn't notice when I was rummaging through my stuff, since it fitted a little loose tbh. Of course he was sad about it, so I told him that I could buy the same one, since it looked like it could be found online but his answer always was that "Still, it's not the same ring" so the sentimental value isn't there. And I totally get it.
I suppose that I'm mad at myself for committing such a stupid mistake just when I was wearing that special ring. So I bought it again. I found it on Temu the other day and it already arrived. It's the exact same ring, cat ears and all, but I'm debating with myself if I should just tell him that I bought or if I should pretend that it's the same one and I just found it between my stuff. I think my consciousness would eat me alive if I lie to him, but I feel so bad for not having that special ring full of sentimental value that I would like to keep this one, even if it isn't the exact same one.
What should I do?
