So first of all, I live in the UK where in my work/social sphere, the majority of my peers are atheist/not religious.
My beautiful fiancĂŠ and I have a almost 5 month old and we couldnât be (generally) more hapoy and aligned.
All but on the point of Christening/Baptism.
She was âbrought upâ to an extent to be Catholic by her mother who never forced religion on her, her Dad not partaking, and my fiancĂŠ choosing not follow the church after a certain age.
But sheâs still not sure she doesnât believe in something, her Mum goes to church every week, and it canât harm to protect our son by getting him baptised - in their view.
My view is that I absolutely do not believe in God, accept and appreciate some of the values in instills, but ultimately donât want to advocate my child believing a man in the clouds explains the things we canât explain.
Thereâs lots more backstory to both our belief systems I could go into, but I feel like Iâm ultimately the AH because âWhatâs the harm im getting him baptised - just incaseâ.
This goes against my whole belief system, but would I be the AH if I pushed hard for the baptism not to happen? Tell me Reddit.
