📝 I followed an employee and stood across from the washrooms during a proctored test, AITAH?

I work in HR and occasionally have to proctor tests. This test in particular was about 2.5 hrs long with no built in breaks (not my decision). In the beginning, we ask employees to avoid going to the washroom unless necessary. I personally also checked that no one needed to go when we started.

There was an employee that asked to go to the washroom twice in less than 1 hour I said yes both times, didn't give him a hard time and said he could go. He was supposed to leave his phones (work and personal) on the table, but only left one behind.

The 2nd time he asked, I quietly followed him (he knew) and stood indirectly across the hallway from the washroom just to verify he went in and then waited until he walked out and came back with him.

I only followed him the 2nd time, not the first - as it was very close together and I noticed he didn't leave both phones either time. There was a different employee that asked to go, but I did not follow them as they only asked once and left both phones.

Also, there was another proctor that stayed in the test room.

He has now complained to his union rep saying I was racially profiling him (he's black), treated him like a criminal, made him feel less than me, etc. And that it affected his test (which he knows he passed - it's pass /fail) and that it's affecting his sleep. He ultimately did not get the promotion due to the final interview phase, but not due to the test. He said the act of following an employee to the restroom during a proctored test is terrible in general.

TLDR: Employee accusing me of racially profiling after I followed them during a proctored test to verify they went to the washroom - I stayed as far as possible.

EDIT: The company doesnt really want employees tk get up during the test, but was afraid to say no bathroom breaks because of the union. I was always told to verify people aren't cheating if they leave the room.
