This new boss has only been here for 4 months, he's not my boss, we work nights so it gets lonely for an extrovert like him. You will never catch me on camera walking up to anyone just to have a random conversation with them unless it's about work. It's been like that since I started. I'm just the part time help, I don't need this job, I'm just here cause it's so easy and day shift tell me I'm a fabulous worker. I don't have a boss at night so I don't report to anyone.
Now, last Friday this guy walks up to me and starts chewing the crust on his fingers and spits it out. Immediately I got a wiff of his bad breathe but I didn't say anything. Then he starts talking to me about non work related things while yawning in my face. I tried to move my head but I just couldn't avoid the smell. Not only does his breath stink, he has this foul lingering odor that follows him. He told me 4 months ago that he only showers once every 3 months.
I remember 6 months ago, I almost vomited while he was training me and I shit you not, as he was training me, flies were buzzing on top of my head. So Saturday morning, I woke up with the worse strep throat because I interacted with him. My throat felt like swallowing needles every time I tried swallowing.
I go in to work on Monday, at the start of the shift I'm minding my own business, the guy walks up to me to make a non work related joke so I tell him, "Jimmy, I'm saying this with the utmost respect, and I don't mean any disrespect whatsoever but please only talk to me about work related topics. We have to limit our conversation. Last week when you yawned in my face, it gave me strep throat and gave me a high fever."
He tells me, "I'm not sick." I told him, "I know you're not sick but talking to you made me sick. I understand you're homeless and you don't have access to a shower. So please let's limit our conversation."
He yells at my face and says, "How about you don't ever talk to me again?!?!"
I literally busted out laughing so hard and said, "Yes, thank you. That's how I love it."
Then he walks off and walks back and tells me, "Don't you ever accuse me of being f-ing sick."
Again, I busted out laughing so hard cause this looks like its right out of a comedy movie. The guy has a foul odor as he's saying his, he only has 3 teeth left, and his face literally looks like he has leprosy. So as he was telling me this I couldn't help but laugh so loud and I tell him, "I didn't say you were sick."
And before I could tell him, "I said you smelled." He interrupts me and says, "You just did!?!"
I told him, I thought we weren't supposed to talk to one another. He walks away pissed with a red face and clocked out early. This is a manager in another department that doesn't have anything to do with me.
I didn't know any other way to tell him. Every time you walk by his area, you literally have to hold your breathe or else you will swallow the stentch. His assistant had to wear a COVID mask around him for 3 months and it got so bad the kid just quit. I don't want to wear a mask while doing manual labor, that would make me pass out.
I didn't have any other way of telling him. If I didn't tell him, he will just walk up to me and talk to me about football, the weather etc.... I'm not trying to hear any of that shit. I feel bad for what I did because he's been with the company for 15 years where as with me, 8 months and I don't give a damn if I get let go but I know I won't get let go but I think I made him quit. He's no longer going to show up to our building and will relocate to another building.
No one was around when this was addressed. It was just me and him in the area so I didn't humiliate him or embarrassed him in front of anyone.
Am I the asshole?
