I like to think I’m a reasonable person, but this kind of has me thinking otherwise. Plus, I’ve had a few beers so FI, I’ll ask Reddit for clarification. I hired someone to pick up my kids from school and get them home. We are in an extremely rural area and I don’t get done until 530-6pm. Job is pick up one kid, drive 30 min, pick up second kid, drive 5 min to our house, keep them occupied until I get home to make dinner. Nothing super complicated, but it demands a degree of responsibility due to the driving part. The kids are still in car seats. This seems to be the problem. Currently, the person hired doesn’t have car seats. No problem! I bought an extra set. They don’t have room to store them at their home which is 10 minutes from our home. Okayyy. No problem, we can leave them in the garage and they can pick up/drop off car seats as needed.
BUT, they want to be paid mileage to get the car seats. AND the hourly rate after they get the car seats and travel 30 min to the first child. During this time there is no child in their care.
Is this normal or am I the asshole for telling them it’s not normal to get paid to drive to work. They just keep saying that they don’t work for free and expect to be paid mileage plus hourly for coming to get the car seats. đź«
