📝 My girlfriend got offended when I said that she looks better without makeup

The other day my girlfriend and I were hanging out (it was a casual hangout, nothing special). She sat down at a bench and she got out a small mirror and started applying mascara, she then turned to me and asked, “Does it look good?” I nodded and said it looked fine, not really analysing it.

We started walking and talking again, then she started to get her phone camera out and looking at herself in the camera, kind of getting a bit annoyed at how much she’s trying to fix herself up around me, I said, “You look better without makeup (her name).”

She looked at me with a serious offended expression, rolled her eyes, and the entire time we were hanging out, her entire mood changed and she was being much more angry.

AITAH for telling her that? I thought it was a compliment, why did she get offended? Do all women get offended at this, does anyone have a similar experience or anyone have an idea why she may have got upset? I really feel bad for her. (If you need more context, just ask.)
