I’m 28 and my girlfriend is 19, we have been together for a year.

Yesterday my girlfriend surprised me with a gift basket out of the blue, inside of it was a baby onesie and the positive pregnancy test. My reaction was very unexciting and I didn’t seem to have the reaction my girlfriend was hoping for. I definitely had a shocked and surprised look on my face.

She asked me if I was excited and I told her I was happy, my face clearly didn’t show that. I asked her to give me a day to process this and she stormed off and went to stay with her mum.

I called her today to tell her I’m excited for this new addition to the family but that I just needed a day to fully process that I’m going to be a father. We are renting a one bedroom place and she doesn’t have a stable job, so all the thoughts of how to afford a child swam through my head. Im the manager of a clothing store so I make slightly more money but it’s still scary to think about how we can afford this.

She told me that my reaction was incredibly hurtful and I needed to apologise.
