My husband and I are first time parents to a five month old boy. We’re both pretty sentimental, especially since our son had a prolonged NICU stay after birth. My mom watches our son (five months) a lot, and we have a pretty great relationship. But sometimes she pushes the boundaries of what we want her to do — most recently, she sent us a video of him in a swing for the first time. When I saw the video I was immediately sad that she’d do that without us, and worried my husband would feel the same since we’ve talked about how excited we are to try putting him in a swing once he’s ready. I sent her a snappy text saying I didn’t want her doing “firsts” without asking us first. Now I feel silly and guilty — she’s so helpful to us and I guess swinging isn’t a big first milestone. AITAH?
