I am an operations manager. I am responsible to get new employees onboarded and trained. We are doing a mass hire at the moment due to the company getting an extra contract. I am working with 25 people in mutiple steps in hiring process. It's more then what I have every done.
I have 1 employee who has had to already reschedule appointments for fingerprints, training, etc. Today was finally the main training for the job. He called me, he was late about 15 minutes. No bigger, it's all computer training the first day. First thing he asks is money for the parking garage. I explained, in his welcome packet, we provide a employee parking pass and details. He said he didn't know where it was. I asked why didnt you call me. Well he was rushing. I said if you hurry, parking for the first 30 mins are free, so move your car. He asked for money just in case they charge him. I said no. I wait for about 45 mins, he comes back and said they wouldn't let him out of the garage because he had to pay $7. At this point I'm irritated and behind on my other duties, so I ignore his issue and continue on. I get him started with training, advise it takes 2-3 days. Asked what other days this week work for him to come in? He said none, I can do next Monday(9 days from now). Explained this training needs completed no later then Friday(1 week away) as there are classes to take the follow week. He said he can't come in because he doesn't have any gas money. He asked if I can give him $100 and he will pay him back.
I said no and walked away before my month got me in trouble.
So am I the asshole for not helping?
