Hi all! For some context my boyfriend (30) & I 29(F) have a cat 2 yrs old with FELV. The cats health has declined significantly. He’s not eating or barely drinking he’s super lethargic. We took the cat to the vet and they told us with the cats condition they gave us some medicine. He was responding well to the medicine but I guess the virus got stronger. Took him back to the vet they gave the cat like some sort of steroid shot to help his white blood cells but told us that’s all they could do. If it got worse they wouldn’t have a solution.

Well this morning when I went to give the cat his medication and by the looks of it… it’s gotten worse, the cat is drooling his pupils are huge and it seems like the cat is a little out of it breathing really hard and fast I told my boyfriend that maybe we need to call the vet to possibly put the cat down Now I know the title is misleading but this dude has so many hobbies and is a GM so he’s hardly ever home! The cat formed such a strong bond to me and my boyfriend noticed and would get upset. I could count on one hand how many times this dude has fed the cat or even emptied out the litter.

Well this morning I woke him up sobbing because the cat wasn’t doing so good. The whole time I’m sobbing he has his back turned to me in bed.. telling me there’s nothing we can do and we have to let the cat pass away naturally. Not once did he turn around to comfort me, or even acknowledge that I was in the room with him. I got upset and told him that’s not fair we’re just supposed to ignore the cat and go to work and pretend like everything’s ok and come back home and hope the cats still alive? He finally turned around and with a straight face said “yeah. What else do you want me to do”

I told him he’s being selfish and not caring about the cat. He blew up on me jumped out of bed yelling at the top of his lungs (at 6AM btw) “YOURE NOT CONSIDERING MY FEELINGS. I TOLD YOU THAT I DIDNT WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE CAT AND TO JUST LET NATURE TAKES IT COURSE. YOURE AN ASSHOLE FOR FORCING ME INTO THIS CONVERSATION WHEN I TOLD YOU I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT MY DYING CAT!

I told him we have to talk about it at some damn point he can’t just ignore the issue until the cat shows up at our feet dead.. I feel like he’s being very selfish and childish about this… but what do you guys think AITA?
