Hey Reddit,
So I (31M) and my wife (30F) are expecting a baby through surrogacy. After a long journey, we're finally here—our surrogate, let’s call her Lisa, is two months pregnant and staying with us temporarily. We’re beyond excited, this baby means the world to us.
Now, for context: my wife doesn’t have any fertility issues, physically. She just has a strong aversion—maybe even a phobia—of pregnancy. It’s not something that she can just “get over,” and I never wanted to pressure her. We explored all our options and decided together that surrogacy was the best path. Thankfully, we're financially stable enough to make it happen.
Lisa was amazing from the start. She’s warm, friendly, and made the process feel very human and personal. But lately, something has started to feel...off.
She’s been really touchy with me. Like, she’ll linger when she hugs me, laugh a little too hard at things I say—even when they’re not funny—and she’ll touch my arm or shoulder in a way that feels a little too intimate. The weird part is, she doesn’t act like that with my wife at all.
I want to be clear: I’m not some guy who thinks every woman is into him. I actually don’t think I’m attractive at all. I’ve always wondered what my wife even saw in me, honestly. So this isn’t about ego. It’s just... unsettling.
I mentioned it to my wife. She didn’t brush it off, but she said it might just be hormones, and that we should observe for now. Still, I could tell it bothered her.
Now I’m stuck. I don’t want to make things awkward with Lisa—she is carrying our child—but I also don’t want to ignore something that might snowball into tension between me and my wife.
So, Reddit: Would I be the asshole if I gently confronted Lisa about this behavior?
Thanks for reading. And just a quick note: English isn't my first language, so I used ChatGPT to help me refine and structure this post to make sure it came across clearly. Hope that’s okay. Also our surrogate is staying with her bc my wife wanted to help her with the baby and take care of her, she stays in the guest bedroom
