📝 WIBTA if I give my brother a different ring for him to propose with?

Years back, my great grandmother passed away. In her will she passed down her wedding rings to me.

Over the past few months, my brother has asked if he could have the ring to propose to his girlfriend with. I have no issue with the proposal, she is a lovely woman. But its my ring and if anything I want it to go down the maternal line.

He has since gone off and told the whole family, and girlfriend included about this. They are all on my case and are begging me to give the ring to him. Its non-stop. Its given me a whole new reason for me to not want to give him the ring if I am honest.

But I know my family. I wouldn't put it past some of them to come over and have a looksie while I am out. This issue will never stop and will end badly in one direction. We are all stubborn bastards when we get an idea in our heads. (Me included, which is why I am here for a second opinion lol)

I don't want any conflict around this ring. I dont want to file a police report or have it constantly brought up. I also dont want to have to start cutting people off.

I do have another ring. I found it on the floor years ago and despite my best efforts I unfortunately couldn't find the owner. Its similar to my ring. Similar enough that they wouldn't notice, also they haven't seen it in like 20+ years. The only person that would be able to tell, would think its funny and keep quiet if she found out.

WIBTA if I just gave him the other ring and pretended it was the original?
