I (24F) work in a dental office that is in an older building. Last summer the AC was broken the whole summer. Cold in the morning but then when it got hotter throughout the day the AC shut itself off and the office would be boiling. I’m talking 80+ degrees with no windows that can open. With my job i work with a sterilization machine which adds more heat to the office whenever i open it. There is no work around to it, i have to open it during the drying cycle and its so hot being near it. I do not work well in the heat, i slow down and it feels like my ADHD gets 10x worse. I get behind on my tasks and then am screwed all week. Everyone brings in fans and points it to the dental assistants and whenever i move one to point at me they tell me “its fine you dont need one since you get to go to cooler parts of the office” that only happens here and there. For me to do all my tasks I’m mainly stuck in the hottest part of it.
Whenever i complain about the heat and how i cant function in it I have my older coworkers saying “we’re all hot so go over it” or “try working with hot flashes” which i totally understand i dont have it as bad as my older coworkers and i have sympathy for them. I then feel selfish and childish for complaining but at the same time I can not work 100% in this heat and then am scrutinized for not getting everything done.
So reddit would i be the asshole if i refused to work with the AC broken?
