Please tell me if my husband and I are being the assholes/unreasonable!

My husband’s parents have asked if we can feed their dog in a few weeks time for 1 evening as they will be out of town. On the whole we have a good relationship with them, they are helpful for us when we ask and we like to help them out too when we can.

This time though we have said no and have received backlash for being unreasonable. For context, if is the Saturday night of Easter.. so if we commit to feeding the dog then we ourselves are unable to go away for that weekend. (We could go to my parents holiday house last minute if we want to). Our inlaws also live 30min away from us so it would be a 1hr car trip to simply feed a dog. Lastly, and most importantly, we have 3 kids under 4 with our youngest only 3 weeks old. Consequently, dinner times are a really hectic time and I’m not sure I want my husband to be leaving the house for 1hr while I manage 3 kids. We’ve also been going to bed around 6.30pm most nights to deal with the sleep deprivation a newborn brings.

Our inlaws usually ask their neighbours to help but since it is a long weekend they are also away. In-laws don’t really have anyone else they could ask.

So.. are we the assholes? Would you go feed the dog?
