I’m a mom (49) to a non-binary child (13) on their 8th grade trip. I’m getting to know people, and taking it all in. Then I see it. Them. One kid has big gold earrings that are upside down pineapples. WTF? Am I the only one who thinks this has to be stopped? Do the teachers and other parents just not know? Or care?

My kid thinks it means “wife swap” and I let that lie. Maybe I should back away slowly? But, I just think this behavior is icky at best and unsafe at worst.

I don’t want to snitch, but I honestly want to ask the kid what he’s thinking, but that’s def crossing the line. I’m no prude but save it for…… geez! I’m at a loss.

I want to handle this without causing embarrassment to any of us! Is that possible? Do I have to be the A-hole?
