Looking for some advice, My mom & siblings are throwing a baby shower for me and it’s in a week; naturally we sent invites to many different family members knowing they probably wouldn’t go, but would want to get us something.
Now, we have some family that are going that we didn’t expect but really no big deal because family is family, but due to their RSVPs my mom/siblings are spending a bit more but nothing crazy
I’ve noticed a lot of the family who RSVP’d hasn’t bought us anything from our registry so I sent out a generic text to everyone last week who RSVP’d reminding them “to make sure to mail their gifts to our home” as our baby shower is not in the same state that we live in. EVERYONE who RSVP’d liked the message or responded in some way
Yet still nothing new has been purchased…
So my question: is it wrong of me to turn away family that show up without having bought me anything? Or maybe should I approach them with a zelle link to send us some cash? (I’m unaffraid to do this btw, just at not sure if I should) They may have the intention to buy me something later on, but who is to say they’d actually do it?
I’m of the belief that if my mom/siblings are going through all this work to pay for and host this shower, the least people can do it actually buy/bring something??
I told my mom my idea and she wasn’t happy but my siblings are on my side and said they’d even speak to people if that’s what I want.
Just don’t know what to do? What do y’all think?
