So I (28F) am getting married soon, and everything's mostly going smoothly — except for one thing: my sister-in-law (let’s call her Jenna).
Jenna got engaged a few months ago, and her ring is… huge. Like blindingly huge. And trust me, she loves talking about it. Every family event since she got it has turned into “The Ring Show” — how her fiancé got it custom-made, how it’s ethically sourced, how it's valued at [insert number here], blah blah blah.
The issue is, Jenna has a way of making everything about her. She dominates conversations, inserts herself into every photo, and just has this “I’m the moment” energy. I know that if she wears that ring to my wedding, people will comment on it, she’ll be waiting for compliments, and it’ll become a topic — even for like 5 seconds — and I really just want one day where the attention isn’t rerouted to her.
So I asked her, politely, if she could maybe not wear the ring to the wedding — or at least not make it a whole thing. She acted super offended and said I was being jealous and insecure. My fiancé thinks I maybe should’ve just let it go, but my maid of honor said I was totally valid for setting boundaries on my day.
AITA?
