My Dad passed away in 2018. Saddest day of my life. Prior to his passing this woman named Natalie was in his and my stepmoms life. Apparently they had fostered Natalie for about 2 weeks back in the 1980s. My Dad and Mum divorced when I was 3yo and by 1979 Mum had moved me and my brother from UK to Australia. My Dad remained in UK. A couple of years before Dad died he started mentioning this Natalie chick. He had never spoken of her before and neither had my stepmum. A couple of months later he started mentioning a girl called Charlotte. I asked who the heck it was and Dad said Natalie had changed her name. Whatever. Another couple of months passed and he said she had taken the family surname too. Ok I thought this is getting weird. Whilst my Dad was ill I made multiple trips to UK to be with my Dad. I noticed in their home that there was not one picture of me or my brother but loads of Charlotte with Dad and my stepmum. She kept telling me how much she loved Dad and how much she did for him. Sadly he passed away. At the funeral Charlotte got up and said she was going to make a speech. She got up and said that just before he passed away that Dad and my stepmum adopted her. She’s 47!!! My stepmum also made it very clear that my brother and I were not getting any special mementos to remember my Dad by. I was given a hanky. Fast forward a couple of years and I’ve just found out from a cousin that my stepmum plans to leave everything to this grifting ho. AITA for being so upset about this because everyone keeps telling me she can do whatever she wants with the $$. But it really hurts
