19M, throwaway. So a couple of weeks ago I went to a funeral for my uncle. He was always kinda weird, he just kept to himself at family gatherings and if any of my littler cousins tried to talk to him he would scowl and scare them. Trying to be polite, he was very overweight and died from heart problems.

During the funeral everything was pretty normal, it was outdoors and pretty peaceful. And then they started doing the eulogies. I didn't know the first guy who went up, so I figured he was a friend of my uncle's. He started motioning to someone near the back of the crowd, and this other guy rolled up an entire projection screen and projector to the front and got behind it to work it?? I didn't know manual projectors were even still a thing. So I've never been to a funeral, but I figured they were going to start flipping through pictures of my uncle or something. The first image that comes up is an anime girl with, frankly, massive tits. And I mean she looks twelve and I can feel everyone shift, I looked at my brother next to me and he looked really confused.

Apparently she's from this anime Dragon Maid and her name is Ilulu?? And I only know this because my uncle's friend's eulogy opens with, and I quote, "[Uncle] was a great friend. He asked me today, on the day of his ending mortality (yes he used the words "ending mortality" 10000% seriously), to share with you the love of his life."

The next 10-ish minutes is a slideshow of pictures of who I assume is Ilulu as this guy starts talking about how passionate my uncle was "about his interests" and how much he "cared for his wife" (he is not married. This was so uncomfortable)

Finally it's done and this guy gets off the podium and re-joins the crowd like that wasn't the weirdest thing I've ever seen. The rest of the funeral went on as normal as it could? A few relatives I did know went up to speak, thankfully lacking an anime girl slideshow.

After the funeral our car driving home was dead silent. I feel kind of bad being grossed out by this because my uncle is dead, but also, what the fuck. AITA?
