I (23F) have been dating my boyfriend (26M) for a little over a year. Things have been mostly good, typical ups and downs, but nothing major until now. He and his ex dated for about 2 years before we got together, and while he said they ended because he caught her cheating on him, and now he hates her. he made it clear he didn’t talk to her anymore and had no intention of ever doing so.

A few days ago, while we were watching Instagram reels together on his phone as we laid on the couch, an Instagram notification pops up on his phone and it happens to be his ex texting him, and it happens that they've been texting for a few days now. he said she reached asking for forgiveness and wanted to be "just his friend"

so, I broke up with him. I told him I don’t want to be with someone who’s still entertaining their ex and hiding it from me. in his defence, he said he never intended for them to meet, he just wanted to see her living a changed life. now i feel he still has interest in her even after all she did to him. is that possible?

I still feel hurt and disrespected, but part of me wonders if I should’ve given him a second chance instead of ending things immediately.
