I (M 21) had my gf (we’ll call her Alice) up at college this weekend to hang out. Alice and my roommate’s gf (We’ll call her Jen) love to hang out and drink together, and were both looking forward to hanging out this weekend by having a little party together in our room. By “party” it was only me, Alice, and Jen since my roommate (we’ll call him Jake) wanted to go to the gym instead for an hour. Jen and Alice both expressed their excitement to get drunk that evening together.
We have been out drinking together a couple of times before this, and we all know how much we can individually handle. Jen is a lightweight, it doesn’t take too much to get her drunk. I am also a lightweight, it doesn’t take much to get me drunk either. I really don’t know how much everyone else can handle, and imo it’s the individual person who is drinking who has responsibility for how much they drink (in most cases). I also don’t know the specific amount of alcohol that each person can handle.
So we start drinking and playing card games together, standard stuff. Jen drinks: a seltzer thing (the equivalent of a white claw), has a swig of moonshine, and drinks a solid 3rd of a medium sized mixed drink that had 2 and half shots of Tito’s in it. That’s all she drank in the hour of us partying. To me, that didn’t seem like a lot at all and since she wanted to get drunk I saw no problem with letting her drink that. I did make sure she was drinking water throughout the hour as well so that she stays hydrated. We did not pier pressure her or anything either. We didn’t even do any shots together, just casual drinking.
We had a blast for an hour and then Jen started getting sleepy and then Jake got back to the room. Jen started feeling sick, hovering over the trashcan and laying on the floor. Jake shot me and Alice multiple glares while he sat there comforting Jen. Me and Alice take a walk together for an hour and come back, where Jake tells us that Jen threw up twice and that she drank too much. She was still hovering over the trash at this point. Alice and I are tired so we get into bed and sleep. We wake up the next morning, and Jake starts complaining that it “reeks of puke”, to which I respond: “You didn’t take out the trash after she was done throwing up?” Jake says “That’s all you, you guys let her drink too much.” I was surprised by this since Jen was the one who wanted to get drunk, didn’t seem like she had too much (which I still made sure she was drinking water the whole time), and also why either Jen or Jake didn’t take out the trash when she was done? I wouldn’t be mad if they just forgot to take the trash out but Jake fully blames Jen’s state on us. I find this to be unfair. Alice and I are confused why we are at fault. AWTA?
