📝 AITA for not letting my neighbor use my hose because of what he said about my tomatoes

I’m a 34 year old guy and I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood. Most people kinda keep to themselves but we’ll chat in the driveways sometimes. Last month I started growing tomatoes in my backyard. Nothing fancy, just a couple plants, but I’ve been really proud of them. I even brought a few over to my neighbor, Greg, who’s in his 40s, just to be friendly.

Greg took them, looked at them for a sec and said they were “fine, but a little smug.” I didn’t know what to say. I laughed kinda awkwardly but that comment really stuck with me. How can a tomato even be smug?

Anyway, two days ago Greg came by and asked if he could use my garden hose cause his spiggot wasn’t working. I told him nah, sorry, I wasn’t comfortable with it. He kept asking why and I finally just said, “My tomatoes might be smug, but at least they’re hydrated.”

He just looked at me for a really long time and then walked off. I saw him later trying to water his lawn with what looked like Capri Suns that he’d poked holes in.

Now some neighbors are saying I was kinda rude. My sister says I’m taking things too personal. But no one’s mentioning the fact that Greg once tried to sell me an invisible fence for the moon. I didn’t buy it obvously but I think he’s still mad about it.

AITA?
